Euro Paper Talk: Barcelona eye Spurs star as United close on £53m ace; PSG to sanction €322m swap

Barcelona are ready to turn to a Tottenham star to replace Samuel Umtiti amid claims he could be set to join Man Utd, while PSG are plotting a sensational €322m swap deal, according to Monday’s European papers.

BARCELONA EYE ALDERWEIRELD AS POTENTIAL UMTITI REPLACEMENT

Barcelona are reportedly plotting a move to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham amid growing claims that Manchester United could trigger a deal to sign Samuel Umtiti.

The giant French defender has been locked in talks with Barcelona over a new deal, but his existing contract makes him vulnerable to poachers given it only contains a £53m release clause.

And Don Balon have once again claimed on Monday that United are looking to exploit that this summer and bring Umtiti to Old Trafford and pair him up with Eric Bailly in a no-nonsense central defensive partnership.

However, it’s also claimed Barcelona are themselves considering a summer swoop for Tottenham’s Alderweireld as Umtiti’s replacement.

Alderweireld’s current Tottenham contract is set to expire in the summer of 2019, though his deal also contains an option for a further year.

However, the complex terms of the proposed extension would see the Belgian’s release clause drop to just £25million, as long as any interested clubs agreed to pay the entirety of the clause at least 14 days before the close of the transfer window.

The player has an army of admirers looking to exploit the loophole and it’s believed Barcelona are the latest looking to recruit the defender, who has already spent time in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

ARSENAL, MAN CITY IN HUNT FOR ADLI

Arsenal and Manchester City are among a group of clubs looking to sign PSG starlet Yacine Adli, reports L’Equipe.

The 17-year-old is out of contract in the summer and would cost a nominal fee in compensation – a deal right up Arsene Wenegr’s street.

Barcelona are also interested in the attacking midfielder, with the report suggesting France U17 star Adli would prefer not to move to the Premier League.

PSG WANT COUTINHO IN A SWAP TO KEEP NEYMAR HAPPY

PSG are hatching an incredible plan to bring Philippe Coutinho to the Parc des Princes this summer, according to a sensational report in France.

Le 10 Sport, via El Pais, claim PSG are ready to make a spectacular attempt to bring the former Liverpool man to the club this summer and plan to offer Barcelona Kylian Mbappe in a straight swap.

While the talk sounds quite fanciful to say the least, it’s claimed PSG are confident a deal can be arranged, given Barcelona’s willingness to sign Mbappe over the summer.

Mbappe scored 26 times last season during his breakout season with Monaco and already has 16 goals and 11 assists to his name this term.

But it’s suggested they would be willing to sacrifice the teenager if it meant they could get their hands on Coutinho. It’s claimed they want to sign the Brazilian playmaker in an effort to appease Neymar and amid mounting talk he wants out at PSG and make a return to Spain.

The report indicates that a PSG director has already discussed the incredible scheme to president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Coutinho cost Barcelona €142million when they signed him from Liverpool last month and while that is cheaper than the €180m PSG will spend to make Mbappe’s switch permanent in the summer, it’s said they are prepared to write off the difference in a bid to sign the Barca star and in a double deal that will be valued at an eye-watering €322m.
